What is the material saying? What connections is it making? What does that mean for the dramaturgy? Flights of fancy and euphoria, sometimes perplexity. Finally, happiness and satisfaction when the individual parts are put together to form a coherent whole.
Documentary films, in particular, with their peculiar view of reality, often throw up surprises. I discover something new every time. New subjects, strong images, the unknown/uncharted that stirs my curiosity. I love it.
